Last year, Cairo Design Week, kicked off its first edition in Heliopolis, one of Cairo’s most iconic districts. Cairo Design Week was able to successfully showcase the area’s architectural heritage by creating a unique and immersive experience that transformed the city’s streets.
Heliopolis, or “The City of the Sun”, tucked away in the heart of Cairo, is steeped in history and elegance. Founded by Baron Empain, Heliopolis was envisioned as a “utopian” oasis amid Egypt’s chaotic capital. Crafted with Parisian-style boulevards and distinctive architecture influenced by European, Islamic and Pharaonic styles, it quickly became a much-admired destination.
This fusion of an ancient name with belle époque architecture makes Heliopolis a unique district to explore in the map of Cairo’s exciting history.
