Cairo Design Week kicked off its first edition in 2022 within Heliopolis, one of Cairo’s most iconic districts. Cairo Design Week was able to successfully showcase the area’s architectural heritage by creating a unique and immersive experience that transformed the city’s streets.
Heliopolis, or “The City of the Sun”, tucked away in the heart of Cairo, is steeped in history and elegance. Crafted with Parisian-style boulevards and distinctive architecture influenced by European, Islamic and Pharaonic styles, it quickly became a much-admired destination.
This fusion of an ancient name with belle époque architecture makes Heliopolis a unique district to explore in the map of Cairo’s exciting history.

“Figure” is a contemplative and introspective experience, exploring the evocative power of the abandoned and scattered figures in our surrounding contexts. It embraces the notions of suggestion and ambiguity, where each figure represents a potentiality, a puzzle waiting to be solved. It is an invitation to bring personal narratives and subjective interpretations to find the elusive meanings that lie beneath the surface of these figures and unlock their hidden stories and interpretations. The installation creates new knowledge out of the connection and combination of different lost figures. It showcases the active role of those figures and illustrates how they work as a system of relationships and not as static attributes. Hence, the figures, once forgotten and bereft of significance, are transformed into catalysts for contemplation and reflection. They are revived through the process of investigation, constructing interconnections in three-dimensional forms. The word “Figure” serves as both a noun and a verb, echoing the multifaceted nature of the experience it offers. As a noun, “figure” represents each of the individual lost objects that have been discarded and lost within the context. Each figure possesses a history, a story, and an essence waiting to be unraveled
