TAMARA – READING CORNER

Aram Alban (1883-1961) was one of the pioneering Armenian photographers whose studio was on Qasr El-Nil Street in Downtown Cairo. He started his career in Alexandria in 1910. Alban was the official photographer of the Queen of Belgium.
The photo with the blonde baby’s portrait you see in the post (7th), was the iconic window display of the studio for long time, or at least during many years of my childhood when I used to pass by the studio every time I walk down the streets accompanying my parents in a promenade

The well known Reader’s Corner shop (since 1944 and based on Abdel-Khaleq Tharwat Street) has revived Alban’s studio through an exhibition in the charming Tamara Haus Khedival building on Gawad Hosny Street in Downtown Cairo, renovated by Al Ismaelia, during the Cairo Design Week CDW taking place till March 2. Open from 12:00 to 10:00pm.

The Laboratory Film was offering classical studio-style large portraits.
