TAMARA HAUS

From the second edition of Cairo Design Week at ‘Tamara Haus’ in Downtown Cairo District, where a series of talks and panel discussions were helping unfurl the past, present and future of the historic building.

With a Wes Anderson-esque whimsical flourish accented in powder pink and golden script, guests were invited to relive the gilded age of hospitality and entertainment at Al-Ismaelia’s Tamara Haus building in Downtown Cairo.

The iconic building was undergoing resplendent renovations in the expert hands of newly launched hospitality company Alchemy Experience by Alchemy Group. The entire building has been renamed ‘Tamara Haus’ and was set to become a haute-hub for art, design, gastronomy and exceptional world-class hospitality.

The afternoon started with a panel discussion between the masterminds behind Tamara Haus: Karim Shafie, CEO & Chairman of Al Ismaelia, Mohamed Fares Co-Founder of Alchemy Group & Alchemy Experience and Emy Hussein, Partner at Alchemy Group.

Moderated by Mohamed Baitie, business development director of GLC, the three creatives shared with us the design process behind reviving this historic building, some behind-the-scenes of bringing such a space to life, and how they aimed to bring the untold stories of Tamara’s stories history to life. They also candidly revealed their plans to build a 30 room boutique hotel, as well as exquisitely curated dinning and entertainment concepts including a very special rooftop restaurant.

After a short recess, the second panel discussion of the evening commenced. Titled “Architecture of Taste,” the session was moderated by MO4 Network co-founder Amy Mowafi. Joining Fares and Hussein for this conversation were Hoda ElSherif and Sherif Tamim, co-founders of Flavor Republic and When We Eat as we all chef and culinary consultant Wesam Masoud.

Building upon the success of ‘The Architecture Of Taste’ an experiential event conceptualized and curated by When We Eat in collaboration with Alchemy Experience at Tamara Haus, the conversation focused on the convergence between gastronomy and architecture and the new culinary ventures on the horizon at Tamara Haus.
