From the second edition of Cairo Design Week at Heliopolis’ Al Cayan Building.
In a world where design shapes our every experience—how we move, perceive, and interact—there’s a new design concept emerging, one meticulously crafted for individuals with different abilities. Designability, spearheaded by interior designer Sherry Raef, was born from a deeply personal journey. Following her father’s stroke in 2019, which left him paralyzed at the time, Raef embarked on a mission to create a safe and inclusive space for her family.
Driven by her passion for extending her design expertise into creating welcoming environments for individuals with various needs, Designability has evolved into a tailored design concept catering to ageing individuals, those with physical disabilities, and individuals facing mental health challenges.
During Cairo Design Week, Designability showcased a mock-up of a real-life house at Heliopolis’ Al Cayan Building, meticulously designed to cater to the needs of individuals with diverse abilities. In an exclusive #SceneHome interview, Raef offers a guided tour of the space, delving into the thought process behind each design choice and the overarching ethos of Designability.
